Songnotes:

Eli and Brian worked on this song while her father Ralph was in the last year of his life. Ralph made many walks down Water Street in Olympia, often stopping to admire flowers sprouting from the sidewalk, cats, dogs, and of course, people of any size or sort.

Part of this song was written at Breitenbush.

The Wind at the Door

Awaken to a new day
Open all the shutters
Of the ignorance holding you

The light is so golden
It’s hurting your eyes
But you must open them to see the clouds dance

When the wind at the door bears down
Then the wind at the door will lead you home

We run for the shadows
To hide from the knowing
The earth is losing breath
And so are we

When the wind at the door bears down
Then the wind at the door will lead you home

Beauty astounds you
Pouring from the crevices
Of all the misery in the world’s heart

When the wind at the door bears down
Then the wind at the door will lead you home
